The most beaten ones were those that flew away. It’s a paradox… “Lehia’s Parade” in the Extraclasse.

The most striking example of this paradox is “Lechia” in the Polish Extraliga. In modern football, offense can sell tickets, but survival depends on defense and discipline. This harsh rule was proven true by “Lechia” Gdansk, who finished the season in the Polish Extraliga with the best scoring record in the league, but still fell back to the first division. The numbers speak for themselves: the team scored more goals, but they also allowed too many critical goals. The difference in goals scored and conceded became a downfall for them.

Tactical imbalances, instability in the backline, and inability to maintain a lead in key matches turned the attacking potential into a trap. In a league where every point counts, “Lechia” often lost points due to conceded goals at the end of matches. The offense tried to push the team forward, but a weak defense inevitably led to losses.

Such paradoxes are rare in top divisions in Europe, but they’re not unique. Football has long ceased to be a game for just forwards. Modern success depends on balance, organization without the ball, and mental stability. Gdansk showed that it’s possible to be the most entertaining team in the league, yet still fall short of being among the best teams.

Now, the club needs to make some adjustments. “Lechia” will continue to have an attacking philosophy, but without solid defense and tactical flexibility, losing is likely to become the norm. In football, as in life, it’s not enough to just score goals. You also need to avoid conceding them.
