Real Madrid promised players a total of 500,000 euros for reaching the semifinals. But those bonuses never materialized.

The management of Real Madrid decided to motivate the team before the second leg of the quarter-final match against Bayern Munich. Each player was promised a bonus of 500,000 euros if they could advance to the next stage of the competition. The goal was clear: to win against Bayern Munich away from home and secure a place in the semifinals.

The club planned to cover these costs through future revenues. Reaching the semifinals would guarantee Real Madrid 15 million euros from UEFA. The management also expected to earn a similar amount from selling tickets for the next round of matches at home.

However, those plans didn’t come true. Real Madrid failed to defeat Bayern Munich. As a result, those bonuses remained just promises. The club didn’t have to find other ways to cover these costs, and the players lost their promised bonuses.
