The Battle for Ice: FHР Challenges the IHФ’s Decision to Ban Russians from Participating in Tournaments

FHР has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against IHФ’s decision to prevent Russians from returning to competitions.

In March of this year, FHР submitted a request to IHФ’s disciplinary committee, demanding that the Russian teams be allowed to return to competitions immediately.

The decision to send the case to Lausanne is a natural step in this months-long legal battle. Experts from FHР believe that IHФ’s actions violate both the principles of the Olympic Charter and IHФ’s own regulations, which explicitly prohibit discrimination based on national origin. According to sports lawyers, the arbitration process could take between 4 and 8 months. However, the fact that an official complaint was filed changes the balance of power. IHФ now has to provide a thorough legal justification for its decision. Meanwhile, FHР continues to develop alternative tournaments and bilateral matches, in order to minimize the loss of competitive opportunities for players of all ages. Returning to the world stage remains a strategic priority. The final decision lies with the CAS arbitrators.
