The budget crisis in football: Regional clubs lose up to 45% of their government-funded support
The budget crisis in football: Regional clubs lose up to 45% of their government funding. Subsidies for sports clubs in Russia will be cut by up to 20%. This doesn’t refer to funding from state-owned corporations for teams like Zenit, Dynamo, or Lokomotiv. Instead, it refers to the money that the government allocates for supporting sports in various regions. This applies to teams like Dynamo Mh, Rostov, Krylya Sovetov, Orenburg, and Fakel.
The reason for this is a general reduction in local budgets. The first category of expenses is related to urbanization. The second category involves cultural and mass events, as well as sports-related activities. Therefore, professional clubs that rely on government subsidies will suffer the most from this reduction in funding. This is especially true in the First League, according to Karp.
Update: It seems that some clubs will indeed lose up to 45% of their funding.
