The ice transfer is in full swing. Along with the son of Pyushchenko, other promising figure skaters are also changing their countries of citizenship.
13-year-old Alexander Pyushchenko will now represent Azerbaijan.
Yevgeny Pyushchenko officially confirmed that his son has acquired Azerbaijani citizenship for a period of five years. The coach pointed out that it’s technically possible to carry out this transfer within the rules of the ISU.
The 13-year-old skater emphasized that changing his country of citizenship doesn’t affect his cultural identity. He said he still considers himself Russian and expressed hope that he will be able to represent both countries honorably.
The ice transfer process is progressing rapidly. Along with Alexander Pyushchenko, other talented figure skaters are also changing their countries of citizenship.
Also, the figure skater Veronica Zhilina is moving to Azerbaijan. And Kira Trofimova will be able to compete for Belarus.
