The “Wolf” club’s downfall: Wolfsburg historically leaves the Bundesliga
Wolfsburg has been relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time in the 21st century.

German football bids farewell to one of its most recognizable brands. The club, which won the championship in 2009, couldn’t withstand the pressure of consecutive matches. Despite scoring a quick goal in the 3rd minute and having Christian Eriksen in the squad, the “Wolf” team lost 1-2 against Paderborn. A turning point came when Joachim Melcher was sent off in the 14th minute. Playing with a smaller team, the team failed to regain control of the game.

The club played in the top division for 30 seasons in a row. Now, for the first time since 1997, the club will be relegated to the Second Bundesliga. This marks the end of an era in German football, and the beginning of a new, challenging chapter in its history.
