The rebellion of the 13 clubs in Kazakhstan demands the resignation of the chief referee. 13 out of 16 clubs in the Kazakhstani championship have demanded that the local head of the referees’ committee be removed from his position. Almost all teams in the elite division, except for “Kayrat”, “Aktobe” and “Okzhetpes”, have sent official complaints to Omarov, the head of the local football federation. They are dissatisfied with Nuno Castro, who they say ignores errors committed by referees that affect the results of matches. They also say that Castro doesn’t communicate with the clubs and doesn’t create a transparent system for evaluating referees’ performance. The teams’ management claims that there is no dialogue with the referees’ department, and the process of appointing referees is closed. They also claim that Castro ignores official complaints. Nuno has only been in Kazakhstan for 52 days since his appointment in March 2025. In reality, Kayrat is the real head of the referees’ department. The Portuguese man is paid around 3.6 million rubles per month. Insiders say that the actual control of the referees’ department has long been in the hands of representatives of Almaty’s club. The nominal head of the department only exists in name, while he receives a substantial salary for his infrequent presence in the country. Let’s see what will happen to this conflict between the clubs and Castro. Perhaps this situation will inspire our teams to fight against unfair refereeing in the RPL and FNL under Majich’s leadership. The football community is waiting for an official response from the authorities. Ignoring the demands of the majority of clubs could lead to serious sanctions, and it could also disrupt the championship.
