14 penalties against 6: How the referee’s decisions shape the outcome of the championship in the RPL
Zenit earned twice as many penalties as Krasnodar. For Miller’s club’s centenary year, the referees awarded 14 penalties over 30 rounds. Meanwhile, Galitsky’s team received only 6 penalties. Of course, this doesn’t mean they weren’t as hardworking in trying to win gold medals as the Lions were.
Ultimately, the championship will likely be decided by a goal scored by Sobolev from a 11-meter distance. It’s symbolic that it was Mironov who broke the rules. The potential rookie might be able to take away gold medals from his future team. I hope this won’t have any negative effects.
For now, we’re waiting for both the referee and Zenit to be more careful with penalties this season.
